Old Town
Here's the centre of attraction for travellers from all over the world. Most certainly the places of interest and narrow alleyways with unscathed neo-classical residential houses will exert their spell on you and leave you stunned. Very likely that, once you've enjoyed the unique atmostphere, you'll come back to Prague for another visit. The entire old town centre with Malá Strana (also referred to as "Lesser Town", "Lesser Quarter" or "Lesser Side") is part of the UNESCO world cultural heritage. Also you mustn't miss out on a stopover at Prague Castle, the Clementinum or the National Museum. Old Town Square with Astronomical Clock and "Procession of the Apostles", Republican Square with its Powder Tower and, last but not least, Charles Bridge - all offer intriguing views as well. And these are merely the most popular attractions, there's lots more to be found all over town. The amount of stilistically diverse monumental buildings from several centuries is responsible for Prague's appeal. The historical city centre could very likely have sprung from a setting for the film adaption of the Musketeers. Foto: © Guillaume Cattiaux/flickr
Malá Strana
Also known as “Lesser Quarter” , this district on the other side of the river Vltava is laden with sights. Just a few examples: St. Nicholas’ Church with its imposing painted ceiling, the equally abundant St. Thomas’ Chruch, “St. Mary under the chain”, church of the Knights Hospitallers which impresses with its ostentatious interiour. Not to be forgotten, Petrínska rozhledna – the television tower and look-out, situated on top of Petrín hill, has itself a height of 60 metres. Often labelled a smaller version of the Eiffel Tower, a resemblance is not necessarily evident. Foto: © luisvilla/flickr
Prague Castle
The “Hradcany” hill rises aloft of the Lesser Quarter – it’s the worlds’ biggest enclosed castle complex. Situated inside the walls are sacral buildings such as St. Vitus Cathedral and the Basilica of Saint George, the Old Royal Palace, Belvedere, Palais Schwarzenberg and the infamous Golden Lane where Kafka once had his temporary doss. Typically, a sight-seeing tour of Prague Castle starts on Hradcany Square, where the central Marian Column and Tuscany Palace present their sumptuous grandiosity. Furthermore, the royal gardens surrounding the whole areal are welcoming visitors to take a stroll. Foto: © flehmann68/flickr
